How To Make Akara ( Bean Cake)
Nothing can be compared to the enjoyment derived from eating akara balls with hot pap(ogi), Can’t go a week without taking akara with hot pap (ogi). Akara is regularly consumed in the society and it gives significant calorie needed by our body system.It’s a product of beans, fresh onions and salt. It is commonly sold on the street of Lagos and usually served with Ogi (pap) or sometimes with fried yam.
1 cup peeled beans
2 scotch bonnet pepper (Ata rodo)
1 medium sized onion (chopped)
2 red bell pepper ( tatashe)
Seasoning cubes (crushed)
Salt (to taste)
Vegetable oil/ Palm oil for frying
1.Make sure the beans skin have been removed using any method known to you and wash the red bell pepper.Pour the beans (white) in the blender, add scotch bonnet pepper ( ata rodo), red bell pepper (tatashe), onion into the blender and add little water. Crush into a puree form.
2.Pour the pureed beans in a separate bowl, add salt , crushed seasoning. Mix with a tube-shaped object for 10 minutes.
3.Pour vegetable oil in frying pan. Once the oil is hot, scoop 1/2 cooking spoon of the mixture into the oil , a spoon at a time and allow it fry till it becomes golden brown. Ensure you flip often on each side during the process to prevent burning.
4.Remove the balls with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper.
At this point, your Akara should be ready for consumption. It is usually served with pap or fried yam.
